Streams and rivers are the lifeblood of our natural and cultural landscape. Not only do streams and rivers provide lovely scenic views and opportunities for recreation, but they provide crucial habitat for our native species. Furthermore, a healthy stream means a healthy lake. Did you know that eroding streambanks account for 18% of the total phosphorous load entering Lake Champlain, causing toxic algae blooms and other harmful impacts to water quality (LCBP State of the Lake, 2021)? Even small actions like planting some shrubs along a streambank can make a difference. Sign up for a free Stream Wise visit today if you would like to support your stream community!
